From March 14-21, 2005, BC Serdon organized a one-week study tour on “Local Economic Development in Bulgaria” for a Ukrainian delegation. The purpose of the tour was to familiarize governmental officials with local economic development agencies and their relations with municipalities, as well as their role and functions in the economic development of local communities. The tour paid special attention to projects that attracted new businesses and investments to the communities. Participants discussed the importance of local economic development in business development, including the role of business support organizations, investment funds and chambers of commerce. During this tour the Ukrainian delegation met with representatives of the European commission, UNDP, BAEF, SEAF, the Ministry of Regional Development, the Ministry of Economy and some local business support organizations. The BC Serdon team was responsible for the entire organization of the tour and developed a high-quality program that included diverse experiences and locations.
